UniKeep Announces Three New Judges For 2007

Judi Kauffman

Judi is a nationally known writer, designer and teacher.   She holds a BFA in Printmaking from Cornell University and an MFA in Fibers from Antioch University. Judi has written for numerous magazines on craft, paper arts and needlework design, authored five books and had over 20 television appearances. Judi taught drawing and design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, DC, as well as figure drawing, fashion illustration, graphic design, typography, design, and drawing at The George Washington University, University of Maryland, Stephens College, Antioch University, and Brookhaven College. Judi also taught elementary, junior and senior high art programs at both public and private schools.

Quote from Judi: "I've always believed people are inherently creative. It's a privilege to be part of a contest that showcases talent, sponsored by a company whose products help enhance the   creative process."

Judi has been a freelance graphic designer and art director for public and commercial television stations and a product developer/designer for Mayan Hands, a non-profit group serving over 300 women in rural cooperatives in Guatemala.   Judi is a firm believer in puttering and spends at least an hour a day playing in her studio making postcards, doodling, and rearranging   things, furry slippers on her feet, a tin of chocolate at the   ready.   She often says that her standard poodle, Rudy, is a reincarnated gym teacher - He requires a lot of exercise, which keeps her from turning into a couch potato.

Natalie Rhinesmith

Editor, Creative TECHniques magazine
www.creativetechniquesmag.com
www.myspace.com/creativetechniques

Natalie is the Editor of Creative TECHnqiues magazine.   When she was given the opportunity to combine the knowledge and experience gained as a computer technology major and extensive IT background with her love for the written word (and endless minutiae), she jumped at the chance. Although Creative TECHniques is only one year old, it's already proven itself as a diving-in point for artists and crafters who expect the unexpected.

Natalie is a lover of all things retro, including vintage Americana and Googie-style architecture, and that finds its way into a lot of the projects featured in Creative TECHniques. She hopes she can continue to keep her finger on the pulse of what their readers want to know about today's technology. Natalie is a wise-acre on the job (ask anyone) and that definitely finds its way onto the page (she hasn't had any complaints).   In her spare time, Natalie can be found sleeping on the couch, shopping the local Sephora for the latest must-have lipgloss palette, or wearing out her library card on books she's never heard of.
Quote from Natalie:   "I'm proud to be a first-time judge for UniKeep's contest. It's a great way to stretch the creative imaginations of crafters, scrapbookers, really anyone."

Jane Guthrie

Editor, Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine
www.scrapbookingandbeyondmag.com

Book-ended by a decade of study devoted to the art of the painted finish at the Isabel O'Neil Studio in New York to a decade serving as editor on several consumer crafting titles, Scrapbooking & Beyond editor Jane Guthrie has traveled an artistically circuitous route on a life-long path of creativity. Self-admittedly a perpetual student, her focus has always centered on education. "There is so much wonderful product available in today's marketplace, but it holds little value if you don't know what to do with it." says Guthrie. "I find that the only thing I like better than learning something is to take what I've learned and then share it with someone else." With this in mind, Scrapbooking & Beyond was launched in 2004 as the first complete "how-to" scrapbook magazine on the market to teach innovative ideas for creating memory pages and projects. Three years later, the magazine continues to be a leading source for those who want to learn, create, and share.

The road can lead anywhere you want. Use your imagination and fill the binder with your thoughts, travel or favorite things.

Judges Comments:
Judge A: Simple, but with just enough abstraction to make it something I'd enjoy using.

Sports Winner

By: Joey Vallejo
Designer Notes:
Here's a design to organize yourself and keep track of your daily assignments.

Judges Comments:
Judge B:
The smooth, flowing lines of this cover design makes it a winner in my book!
Judge C: I liked the shadow image used in the background for this design. Just showing the tail end of the bike with the "skid marks" creates a fast-forward motion one associates with motorcycles. Well executed use of both color and imagery. This design held real appeal.

Hobbies Winner
Cruising While Organized Image
Cruising while organized
By: Joey Vallejo

Judges Comments:
Judge B:
I'm a classic car nut so this cover cuaght my attention. No "cute" here! This makes a smart and sophisticated chioce for any muscle car fanatic.
Judge C: My son restores vintage cars as a hobby, and I've owned several old classics over the years, so I was drawn to this entry. I liked the perspective of this design, appearing as though you were looking through the windshield. Good use of appropriate imagery that was well balanced throughout was particularly appealing.
Judge A: I could practically hear the radio - This one is a clear winner for me, a bit of memory lane that has a fresh and current feel at the same time.

Business Winner
